Named Insured

The entity that owns the insurance policy and is the primary party covered.

The Named Insured is the person or business listed in the declarations page of an insurance policy as the party who owns the contract. On a Certificate of Insurance, the Named Insured appears in the upper-right 'Insured' box and must match the legal business name on the subcontractor agreement, W-9, and other documents. Discrepancies (for example, 'ABC Contracting LLC' vs 'ABC Contracting Inc.') can invalidate coverage in a claim because the policy doesn't cover the wrong entity. Verifying the Named Insured matches exactly is a basic COI check for every subcontractor.
